How to Plan a Chicago Jet Ski Day

Timing, parking, arrival, and building the rest of the day around your rental.

A jet ski rental is a fixed appointment on the lake, so build the day outward from your departure time.

Pick the right slot

Weekday rates are lower — 30 minutes starts at $100 versus $115 on a weekend — and mornings usually give you the calmest water and the easiest parking near Diversey Harbor.

Work backward from check-in

  • Departure time minus 45 minutes: be at A Dock.
  • Minus another 20–30 minutes on a summer weekend: parking and the walk to the harbor.
  • Before leaving home: physical photo ID, the card you booked with, swimwear, sunscreen.

Choose a duration that fits the plan

A 30-minute ride is a quick blast around the harbor mouth and skyline. An hour or more lets you actually run the lakefront between Foster Beach and the Adler Planetarium. Remember late returns are $5 per minute, so build in a buffer on the way back.

Fill in the rest

Lincoln Park, the Lakefront Trail, the zoo, and North Avenue Beach are all minutes away, which makes the harbor an easy centerpiece for a full Chicago summer day.
